Dear
Academic Colleagues in Economics:
We would like to request your participation
in the initiative to facilitate the transfer
of economics students from the community college
to the CSU or UC systems.
The Intersegmental Major Preparation Articulated
Curriculum (IMPAC) project is an intersegmental,
faculty-designed and faculty-run project which
focuses on ensuring that students transferring
from California community colleges to UC and
CSU institutions will be properly prepared for
transfer, (i.e., that they will not have to repeat
any course work). See http://www.cal-impac.org.
The project, funded by a grant, enables faculty
from the state’s three higher education
systems to meet regionally at intervals throughout
the year in order to address potential problems
of established curriculum requirements and procedures
that may impede the smooth progress of a transferring
student. These meetings provide a forum where
faculty may review and reconcile the prerequisites
of course work both within their particular disciplines
and between disciplines.
January 21ST agenda items include:
*
essential skill sets necessary for lower division
preparation
*
reviewing system-wide articulation procedures
*
examining current textbooks
*
reviewing syllabi and other course resources
* use of computer tutorials
*
identifying learning objectives for lower division
courses.
Please consider attending the IMPAC regional
and statewide meetings scheduled for 2005-2006.
Northern California faculty should attend the
regional meeting scheduled for Saturday, January
21st from 9:45 AM until 3 PM at Westin Hotel
SFO. For hotel directions, click
here.
Please register for this meeting as soon as possible
from this page. There is no registration cost
for this meeting. Continental breakfast and lunch
will be provided. Information regarding mileage
reimbursement for travel expenses is also available
at the IMPAC website.
Your department's participation is critical to
the work of IMPAC, and ultimately to the ability
of California faculty to enhance the successful
transfer of community college students. We are
looking forward to having you or your department
representative attend our meeting this year.
